On December 31, 2017, all lighting was illuminated across the main works of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The bridge's traffic engineering, undertaken by China Railway Construction Electrification Bureau Group Co., Ltd., was presented as a gift to 2018 with outstanding results and set sail.
The nighttime lighting of the entire Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is divided into two major parts: first, functional lighting; second, decorative lighting of the main bridge. The nighttime design of the entire bridge emphasizes a sense of undulating rhythm, stretching continuously like a beautiful string of pearls inlaid upon the sea. The three navigable-span bridges resemble individual “pearls,” and the two artificial islands of the immersed tunnel in the sea resemble a pair of “fine jades.” The nighttime lighting of the bridge focuses on creating the “pearl” and “fine jade” areas, consistent with the overall design cultural concept of the bridge, “perfect pairing of pearls and jade.”
The nighttime lighting of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge adopts dual modes for ordinary days and holidays. In ordinary mode, it returns to simplicity, using white as the main tone to present the bridge's true colors; on holidays, color-changing effects are achieved through color-changing LED lamps.
As one of the main landscape areas, the main navigable span of the Jiuzhou Channel Bridge has a total of 30 sets of 300W color-changing LED floodlights and 40 sets of 70W color-changing LED floodlights arranged around it. The lighting method uses narrow-beam floodlighting to illuminate the four facades of the main tower, highlighting the tower's towering, upright strength and graceful, varied majestic posture; the nighttime lighting of the stay cables uses narrow-beam 300W color-changing LED floodlights to track and illuminate each cable, outlining the contour lines while displaying the tension of the cables and a rhythm like piano strings.
The Jianghai Direct Channel Bridge has 12 sets of 300W color-changing LED floodlights and 10 sets of 70W color-changing LED floodlights arranged around each main tower. The upper and lower parts of the main tower respectively use narrow-beam and floodlighting in coordination with upward and downward projection lighting to highlight the agile beauty of the main tower's “dolphin” form.
The nighttime lighting of the main tower of the Qingzhou Channel Bridge is also a high viewpoint and landmark structure in the water. At night, the bright, tall main tower is like a lighthouse at sea guiding ships, so it is treated as a key lighting object. Around each main tower of the Qingzhou Channel Bridge, 24 sets of 300W color-changing LED floodlights and 28 sets of 70W color-changing LED floodlights are arranged to illuminate the four facades, highlighting the unique character of the “Chinese knot.”
The nighttime lighting control adopts an RS485 bus intelligent lighting control system, using remote centralized control, combining automatic control and manual control, and can adjust the turn-on time and sections as needed, while effectively monitoring lighting color changes and luminaire status.
The landscape lighting of the Jiuzhou Channel Bridge and Jianghai Direct Bridge, which have completed commissioning, and the landscape lighting of the Qingzhou Channel Bridge all use RGB color-changing light sources. The relatively varied color elements are combined with the huge volume of the bridge itself and echo the bustling, lively nighttime lighting of the surroundings, highlighting the bridge's magnificent momentum.
The LED luminaires used for the bridge lighting can adjust brightness from 0 to 100% according to demand, making them more energy-saving and environmentally friendly. The luminaires adopt a modular design, and the luminaire modules can be interchanged, greatly facilitating operation and maintenance.
