What will a leading transport power look like in the future? Wu Chungeng, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport, said at a regular press conference on the 26th that a leading transport power must be world-leading, satisfy the people, and effectively support socialist modernization.

Wu Chungeng said, first, it is a world-leading transport power. On the basis of leading the world in scale and volume, China must then achieve global leadership in quality and efficiency, scientific and technological innovation, industry governance, and international influence, and fully build a safer, more convenient, more economical and efficient, greener and smarter, open and integrated modern comprehensive transport system, with a large number of globally competitive transport enterprises. By then, China's comprehensive strength in transport will lead the world.

Second, it is a transport power that satisfies the people. Efforts should be made to embody the development concept of the “four zeros”: “zero-distance” transfers, which include not only the spatial “zero distance” among various modes of transport but also the temporal “zero distance,” making travel more convenient and pleasant; “zero emissions,” by which time fuel-powered transport equipment will gradually withdraw from the stage of history, new-energy transport equipment will gradually become mainstream, green travel will become the norm, and a higher-level, environmentally friendly and resource-conserving green transport system will be built; “zero deaths,” with technological progress and management innovation substantially reducing the incidence of traffic accidents and making travel safer; and “zero inventory,” building a modern logistics system in which transport equipment will become mobile warehouses, intermediate links in logistics will be greatly reduced, and logistics efficiency will be substantially improved.

Third, it is a transport power that effectively supports China's socialist modernization. Transport will fully adapt to and lead economic and social development, and its strategic, leading, foundational, and service functions will be fully brought into play. By then, a global transport and supply chain covering urban and rural areas, reaching across the country, and connecting the world will be built, and several world-class transport hubs and logistics centers suited to a trade power and a manufacturing power will be created, effectively supporting China's global allocation of resources, the effective implementation of major strategies, and the effective building of a great modern socialist country.
