On December 18, the reporter learned that the Hohhot-Nanning High-Speed Railway is planned to start construction in 2018, with a design speed of 350 km/h. After completion, citizens are expected to take high-speed trains from Taiyuan to Hohhot and Nanning.

The Hohhot-Nanning High-Speed Railway is a high-speed rail corridor from Hohhot to Nanning. It starts in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, in the north, passes through Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Shaoyang in Hunan, Guilin, and Liuzhou, and ends in Nanning. It is a north-south high-speed rail trunk corridor in the national 13th Five-Year Plan and one of the national "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed rail trunk lines. According to the latest Medium- and Long-Term Railway Network Plan of the State Council, the route of the Hohhot-Nanning High-Speed Railway is: Hohhot-Datong-Shuozhou-Xinzhou-Taiyuan-Jinzhong-Changzhi-Jincheng-Jiyuan-Luoyang-Xiangyang-Yichang-Jingmen-Changde-Yiyang-Loudi-Shaoyang-Yongzhou-Guilin-Liuzhou-Nanning.

Hohhot is the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the political, economic, cultural, scientific, educational, and financial center of Inner Mongolia. It is known as the "Dairy Capital of China." At present, the only trains from Taiyuan to Hohhot are Z269 and 2464, and the shortest journey takes 10 hours. After the Hohhot-Nanning High-Speed Railway is completed, travel time from Taiyuan to Hohhot will be greatly shortened, while currently there is no direct train from Taiyuan to Nanning.
