The Xuchang section of the Zhengzhou (Zhengzhou Airport)-Xuchang regional railway project, a backbone line of the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration intercity rail transit network, has officially begun construction recently. The Xuchang section, for which the Fourth Survey and Design Institute of China Railway Construction Corporation is responsible for overall design, has a total length of 33.78 kilometers, starting from the boundary between Zhengzhou and Xuchang in the north and ending at Xuchang East Station in the south, with 11 stations. The line connects Xinzheng Airport, Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, Changge, and Xuchang, running through the core area of the Zhengzhou-Xuchang industrial belt of the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration. It will carry commuter passenger flows between urban clusters and sub-center towns, and will also perform the function of a backbone internal public transport system, carrying passenger flows within urban clusters.

The Zhengzhou-Xuchang regional railway project was planned in the context of Henan Province's efforts to build Zhengzhou into a national central city and accelerate the construction of the "1+4" Zhengzhou metropolitan area. From preliminary planning to the start of construction, it took only one year. The Fourth Survey and Design Institute completed the engineering feasibility study, preliminary design phase, and dozens of supporting specialized tasks, laying a solid foundation for the start of construction of the Zhengzhou-Xuchang regional railway.
