On the 18th, civil engineering pre-embedding works for Wuhan Rail Transit Line 12 and the Qianchuan Line commenced on the same day. So far, Wuhan has 16 subway lines under construction simultaneously.
The rail transit Line 12 that started construction on that day is the only loop line in Wuhan's network plan. Starting from Wuchang Railway Station, the line connects seven central urban districts: Qiaokou, Jianghan, Jiang'an, Qingshan, Hongshan, Wuchang, and Hanyang. With a total length of 59.9 kilometers and 37 stations, 19 of which will allow transfers to 12 subway lines.
Rail transit Line 12 connects multiple key urban functional areas such as Hankou Railway Station, Houhu residential group, Erqi Riverside Business District, Qingshan Riverside Business District, Central China Financial City, Wuchang Railway Station, Nanhu residential group, Qingling area, Sixin urban sub-center, both banks of the Han River, Wangjiadun Central Business District, and Garden Expo Park. It is a key link in the "ring + radial" skeleton structure of Wuhan's rail transit network. Once completed, the project will further alleviate traffic congestion, support urban functional development, optimize urban layout, and effectively enhance the city's comprehensive carrying capacity.
The Qianchuan Line project starts from Qianchuan in Huangpi, runs north-south along main roads such as Huangpi Avenue, Shuangfeng Avenue, Chuanlong Avenue, Panlong Avenue, and Huanhu Middle Road, and ends at Garden Expo Park North Station (excluded) of Phase I of Line 7. The line has a total length of 36.47 kilometers and 11 stations. There are 2 transfer stations along the line: at Julong Avenue Station, transfers to Subway Line 2 and the planned Line 18; at Tenglong Avenue Station, transfers to the planned Line 20.
The Qianchuan Line is another city-district jointly built line in Wuhan, connecting important development areas such as Qianchuan urban area, Beiche Base, Hengdian, Airport Economic Zone, Panlongcheng, and Jinyinhu area. It strengthens rail transit coverage in new urban areas and serves as an important passenger transport corridor linking the northern new town group with Wuhan's central urban area. It can achieve rapid direct connection between Huangpi Qianchuan urban area and Hankou central area, effectively supporting the north-south urban spatial axis development of Wuhan.
It is reported that Wuhan Metro plans to open Phase I of Line 8, the Yangluo Line, and the Jinghe extension of Line 1 before the end of this year, achieving the simultaneous opening of three lines. After opening, the network's operating mileage will reach 237 kilometers.
