According to the official website of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government, the notice of the "Sichuan Province General Airport Layout Plan (2016—2030)" released in March 2017 clarified the future plan for the province's first general airport.
The Plan clearly proposes that by 2030, Sichuan will form general airport clusters in the Chengdu Plain, southern Sichuan, northeastern Sichuan, Panxi, and northwestern Sichuan.
The layout plan adds 85 new general airports of Class II or above, bringing the total to 88. By then, every city and prefecture in Sichuan will have at least one general airport of Class II or above.
By 2020, every city and prefecture will have a general airport of Class II or above; by 2030, general aviation services will basically cover all county-level administrative units in the province, and five major general airport clusters will be built according to the timetable.
As of now, Sichuan has three general airports: Xinjin, Guanghan, and Suining.
The Plan clearly states that by 2030 Sichuan will have built more than 500 Class III general airports. However, what people care about most is where exactly these 500 airports will be built.
