On October 11, Egypt held the launch ceremony for the construction of its new capital. Egyptian President Sisi, Prime Minister Ismail, more than ten cabinet ministers, military generals, and representatives from various sectors, totaling over a thousand people, attended the event. Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Song Aiguo, Economic and Commercial Counselor Han Bing, and others attended as the only invited foreign envoys, witnessing the signing of the contract for the New Capital CBD Project by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC). Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, and other Chinese media were also invited to attend.
At the launch ceremony, Egyptian Minister of Housing and Public Utilities Mostafa Madbouli, General Kamel El Wazeery of the Engineering Authority of the Ministry of Defense, and General Ahmed Abdeen, Chairman of the Administrative Capital for Urban Development Company, presented detailed and vivid introductions of the construction blueprints and project progress of each block of the new administrative capital to the President and the assembly using PPT, pictures, and videos from their respective areas of responsibility. Egyptian Minister of Planning Hala Younis reported on the implementation of major projects and national development plans in Egypt; Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker reported on the implementation of projects in the electricity sector, particularly praising the transmission line project executed by China's State Grid for Egypt, stating that the Chinese company has advanced technology, high engineering quality, and fast construction progress. He also promoted State Grid's plan to achieve regional and global power interconnection, and said that Egypt will participate in it to advance the power interconnection process with Saudi Arabia and other neighboring countries and regions. President Sisi listened carefully to the reports and gave positive comments on each.
As an important agenda of the event, Egyptian Minister of Housing and Public Utilities Mostafa Madbouli and CSCEC Vice President Zheng Xuexuan jointly signed the general contracting contract for the Central Business District (CBD) project of Egypt's new capital. President Sisi expressed congratulations.
The New Capital Central Business District (CBD) project is located in the core area of the first phase of the new capital, with a total land area of about 505,000 square meters. It includes one 345-meter-high building, the tallest in Africa, 12 high-rise commercial office buildings, 5 high-rise apartment buildings, and 2 luxury hotels, totaling 20 high-rise building units and supporting municipal engineering, with a total construction area of about 1.7 million square meters. This project is the largest single project undertaken by a Chinese enterprise in the Egyptian market to date.
The construction of Egypt's new capital is a key project vigorously promoted by the Egyptian government, especially President Sisi. The main buildings include the parliament building, cabinet building, ministry buildings, central business district, embassy district, cultural center, residential areas, central park, and mosques. The construction of the new capital will strongly drive the development of Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Red Sea Economic Zone, create a favorable investment environment and investment opportunities, and boost the realization of Egypt's national renaissance plan. The Central Business District (CBD) project undertaken by CSCEC will create a unique skyline for the new capital, stamped with a distinct Chinese imprint.
