As a foundational project that every Xiamen resident cares about, Xiamen Metro Line 2 has now fully commenced main construction across the entire city. This metro line covers 32 stations, which is relatively many compared to any other city's metro lines nationwide.

According to Xiamen Rail Transit Group, Dongdu Station on Xiamen Metro Line 2 has now entered the main construction phase. As the first station where Metro Line 2 crosses the sea to enter Xiamen Island, Dongdu Station is currently the deepest excavation site in Xiamen's metro construction, with a foundation pit depth of nearly 40 meters.
It is understood that due to the abundance of rock in the station construction area, 170,000 cubic meters of the 200,000 cubic meters of earthwork excavated for the station's main structure were removed by blasting. In early July this year, the foundation pit excavation was fully completed, and the station base slab was poured before the National Day holiday. Currently, the main structure construction of the station is underway.

As another important section of Metro Line 2, the tunneling of the sea-crossing section is also progressing steadily. Currently, the left line of the shield-driven section in the Haidong interval has completed 1,056 rings, accounting for 64% of the designed total; the right line has completed 787 rings and has advanced about 827 meters into the sea, accounting for 48% of the designed total.

According to Shen Feng, project manager of the sea-crossing section of Line 2 in the Second Engineering Department of Xiamen Rail Transit Group, the tunneling mileage of the sea-crossing section has now exceeded half, and the left and right shield lines have advanced nearly 1 kilometer into the sea.

It is understood that Metro Line 2 starts at Wuyuanwan Station and ends at Tianzhushan Station, with a total length of 41.4 kilometers and 32 stations. Currently, all 32 stations along the line are under construction, of which 7 stations have completed their main structures. Of the 33 intervals, 19 have started construction, 5 intervals have been completed, and single-tube tunneling has reached 18 kilometers, accounting for 27% of the total project volume.

Due to its long route, once completed, Xiamen Line 2 will naturally serve a larger audience of Xiamen citizens. The completion of Line 2 will mark Xiamen's official entry into the metro era.
