Addis Ababa, July 2 (Reporter) — African Union (AU) Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy Abou-Zeid·Amani said on July 2 that China has invested enormously in Africa's infrastructure development, and Africa hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in infrastructure construction in the future.
Amani made the remarks on the same day at a series of meetings of the 29th AU Summit held in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. She noted that African countries are working hard to realize Agenda 2063, and improving infrastructure and enhancing African integration are important elements of this ambitious vision. In the context of China's "Belt and Road" initiative, China and Africa will become strong partners in infrastructure construction.
Amani said she had attended the "Belt and Road" Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing in mid-May, during which she held extensive and in-depth discussions with multiple Chinese departments on Africa-China cooperation.
The latest report by international consulting firm McKinsey & Company shows that over the past decade, China-Africa relations have developed rapidly, with bilateral trade growing by 20 percent annually and direct investment growing by about 40 percent annually. In recent years, Chinese companies have actively participated in major infrastructure projects in Africa. China's investment and management experience have promoted Africa's economic development.
