Recently, at the construction site of the S5 Lhasa–Tsetang Expressway in Tibet, seven XCMG rotary drilling rigs—XR280D, XR360 and XR400D—worked in joint operation. In the high-altitude region, XCMG's medium- and large-tonnage rotary drilling rigs overcame various complex geological conditions with abundant power output and outstanding rock-penetration capability, demonstrating the high-end quality of XCMG rotary drilling rigs.

The S5 Lhasa–Tsetang Expressway project is located in Deqing Town, Dagzê County and Sangye Town, Zhanang County, with construction advancing simultaneously from both ends deep into the Guigala mountainous area. The terrain and geological conditions are extremely complex, with drifting (isolated) boulders, slightly weathered granite, basalt and other complex geology, prone to hole collapse, making construction extremely difficult. The designed pile diameter for the pile foundation is 1800–2200 mm, with a depth of 38–62 meters. The project originally used percussion drilling, which required up to one month to complete a single hole. XCMG rotary drilling rigs can shorten the hole completion time for a single hole to 2 days, receiving unanimous praise from the owner and the project department.
