CCTV News: Over the past five years, China's high-speed rail added 12,000 kilometers of operational mileage, exceeding the total high-speed rail mileage of all other countries combined. Leading the way, China's high-speed rail has become a shining new名片 for the world and a new engine for economic development.

Baoji-Lanzhou High-Speed Railway Full-Line Trial Operation

The Baoji-Lanzhou High-Speed Railway, connecting Baoji in Shaanxi Province and Lanzhou in Gansu Province, today (the 6th) began full-line trial operation according to the full timetable.

The Baoji-Lanzhou High-Speed Railway passes through impoverished areas such as Guanzhong in Shaanxi, Tianshui and Dingxi in Gansu. Once operational, it will end the history of no train service in central and southeastern Gansu, bringing these areas into the high-speed rail era in one step and creating new opportunities for apple growers in the Tianshui area along the line.

Lanzhou West Station, which was a large construction site five years ago, will also become the largest high-speed rail hub in Northwest China with the opening of the Baoji-Lanzhou High-Speed Railway.

Not only the Baoji-Lanzhou High-Speed Railway, but over the past five years, China's high-speed rail has rapidly formed a network. Operational mileage has increased from less than 10,000 kilometers to 22,000 kilometers, accounting for more than 60% of the world's total high-speed rail operational mileage. The "four vertical and four horizontal" high-speed rail network has basically taken shape, making China the only country in the world with a networked high-speed rail system.

Over these five years, China's high-speed rail has developed through innovation, successively building the world's first high-speed railway traversing high-cold seasonally frozen soil areas—the Harbin-Dalian High-Speed Railway; the Beijing-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, the world's longest high-speed railway in operation; and the Lanzhou-Xinjiang High-Speed Railway, the world's longest high-speed railway built in a single construction phase.

Over these five years, the pace of China's railway going global has accelerated. Construction of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway in Indonesia and the China-Laos Railway is progressing smoothly; multiple projects such as the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Railway and the Moscow-Kazan High-Speed Railway are being actively promoted.

By 2020, China's high-speed rail operational mileage will reach 30,000 kilometers, and by 2025, it will reach 38,000 kilometers. The "four vertical and four horizontal" high-speed rail network will be expanded to "eight vertical and eight horizontal," connecting large and medium-sized cities with populations of over 500,000.
