At the beginning of the new year, good news keeps coming from the construction site of the Hainan Puqian Cross-sea Bridge.

　　Puqian Bridge is a key project of Hainan Province's "One Bridge, Four Roads" and a strategic project for the integration of "Haichengwen" and the development of Mulan Bay Coastal New Area. Since construction started in June 2015, after more than 600 days of work, as of the end of January, a cumulative investment of 1.278 billion yuan has been completed, accounting for 42.38% of the total investment. The bridge has successfully completed the tasks of last year, a critical year for foundation construction, and the project construction is now moving into the "fast lane".

　　On February 13, at the construction site of the No. 34 main tower pier of Puqian Bridge, the left side of the first tower column section was undergoing stiff skeleton installation, while the right side was undergoing formwork installation. The shadows of large machinery such as floating cranes were cast on the offshore work platform, and dozens of workers in blue uniforms and hard hats moved nimbly through the gaps in the steel reinforcement skeleton.

　　Yao Zhizhong is one of them. "Our work group has more than 50 people, all busy assembling formwork," he said. Due to the tight schedule and heavy tasks of the bridge construction, during the Spring Festival, most of the construction team gave up the opportunity to reunite with their families and stayed on the front line.

　　Currently, the main tower pier has completed the cap pouring task and has moved to the tower column construction stage. It is understood that the No. 34 main tower pier is the controlling project of the entire Puqian Bridge, with a tower height of 151.8 meters and a total of 34 sections of tower columns. It stands in the sea in an A-shaped structure, like an "anchor" plunging into the seabed. Only after the main tower pier is successfully erected can the subsequent work of girder erection and cable installation be completed.

　　"The main tower of Puqian Bridge has an inclination of 14.9 degrees, which is the largest inclination I have encountered in a main tower," said Yin Xianglong, engineering department director of the Hainan Puqian Bridge Project Department of CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. He has participated in the construction of many bridges, including the Yangtze River Bridge. The greater the inclination of the main tower, the higher the difficulty. In addition, the construction of the main tower of Puqian Bridge is "difficult" also because the project is located in a strong earthquake, strong wind, and strong corrosion area and crosses an active seismic fault. The construction requirements for earthquake resistance, wind resistance, and corrosion resistance are high, and the construction of large-diameter pile foundations and large-volume caps is setting multiple records.

　　"Each tower column section is 4.5 meters. We are now starting the first section and must climb up section by section. The project goal is to complete the main tower by the end of this year, so we have no choice but to roll up our sleeves and work hard," Yin Xianglong said.

　　As the "anchor" main tower of the bridge stands firm step by step, other engineering constructions are also advancing together. According to the plan, this year Puqian Bridge aims to complete all pile foundation groups and bridge piers, complete 60% of box girders, and achieve the topping out of the main tower.

　　During the New Year's Day holiday, the 288 pile foundations of Puqian Bridge were successfully poured and perfectly completed, laying a solid foundation for the bridge's onshore construction and pressing the "start button" for offshore work surface construction. The construction teams are working simultaneously from Haikou and Puqian directions toward the middle of the sea, meeting offshore, and using parallel construction with multiple work groups to improve efficiency.

There are more than 100 people working on site, operating in two shifts per day," said Li Yuanming, party branch secretary of the 1st Bid Project Department of Hainan Puqian Bridge of CCCC First Highway Engineering Co., Ltd., at the construction site of the approach bridge cast-in-place box girder. He said that now is the golden period for construction, and they are accelerating the pace.

　　At the construction site, Zhang Zhiqiang, a worker in the steel reinforcement group of the project department, was busy on a large steel frame painted blue. He aligned the steel bars with the positioning points on the steel frame, adjusted them, turned on the welding gun, and welded. The construction process was orderly. Dozens of meters away, another worker, Cheng Xianjing, was busy assembling formwork.

　　"This blue 'giant' is a steel reinforcement installation mold jig, which is the first time we have applied it in Hainan engineering construction. Using the jig to make reinforcement cages can ensure the cage body is straight and, on the other hand, the construction of the steel reinforcement group can be carried out in parallel with the work of formwork and moving mold base passage, without delaying each other," Li Yuanming said. They ensure project progress and quality through comprehensive implementation of standardized construction and refined management.

　　Dong Xianzeng, director of the Provincial Department of Transportation, introduced that as a key project of Hainan Province's "One Bridge, Four Roads," after the completion of Puqian Bridge, the journey from Puqian to Haikou will be shortened from the original one and a half hours to 20 minutes. This is of great strategic significance for creating a new economic growth pole in northern Hainan, improving the province's transportation backbone network, winning the poverty alleviation battle, and enhancing the internationalization level of the international tourism island.
