On October 27, 2016, Zhengzhou held the groundbreaking ceremony for its underground utility tunnel pilot project. Pei Zhiyang, Director of the Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, attended the ceremony.
In April this year, Zhengzhou was successfully selected as one of the second batch of national pilot cities for underground utility tunnels. The pilot project construction takes overall account of regional development positioning and connects with the construction of municipal pipelines, underground spaces, roads, rail transit, old city renovation, village consolidation and city integration, and new district development. Zhengzhou's utility tunnel pilot project consists of 8 projects, with a total construction length of about 44.1 kilometers and a total investment of about 5.98 billion yuan. The PPP and EPCO models are adopted for construction, operation and maintenance. The projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017 and put into operation in 2018. Once completed, they will have important demonstration significance for promoting utility tunnel construction across the province and even the central region.
