Harbin East Railway Station was first built in 1932 and has not undergone large-scale renovation for nearly 30 years. To meet passenger travel demand and coordinate with the Harbin Station renovation project, in early March this year, the Harbin Railway Bureaucarried out renovation work at the station. During this period, passenger transport services at Harbin East Station were adjusted to be handled at Harbin Station,Harbin West Station, Xiangfang Station and Binjiang Station. Railway department staff introduced that the renovated Harbin East Station maintains its existing scale, and the project includes a new elevated waiting hall, baggage and parcel business hall, comprehensive office building, passenger exit passage, canopy and renovation of the existing waiting hall.
According to reports, the new Harbin East Station is designed and renovated according to modern high-speed railway station standards. After renovation, the existing three passenger platforms have been upgraded to 1.25-meter-high high platforms; after renovation, the three platforms cover an area of 17,500 square meters and are covered by new canopies. At the same time, the project built a 4,000-square-meter elevated waiting hall spanning the three high platforms, as well as a 10-meter-wide passenger exit tunnel and a 5.2-meter-wide baggage and parcel tunnel. After renovation, passengers entering and exiting Harbin East Station will also realize “entry from above and exit from below”——entering passengers can take escalators directly from the elevated waiting hall to the platforms to board trains; exiting passengers can leave the station directly through the tunnel bridge after getting off, avoiding confusion between entering and exiting passenger flows. In addition, the station has built two new ticket check channels and installed 9 escalators and 3 barrier-free elevators in the waiting hall, ticket gates, exit passages and other places. Ticket windows have also increased from the original 8 to 12, and manual ticket
sales and collectionmachines have increased to 14.
Harbin-Mudanjiang Passenger Dedicated Line and Harbin-Jiamusi High-Speed Railway to Be Connected
Ma Cheng, deputy stationmaster of Harbin East Station, told reporters that before renovation, the station's daily peak passenger flow was nearly 20,000 person-times. With the upgrading of the station's scale and transport capacity after renovation, the station's daily peak passenger transport will reach 40,000 person-times. In addition, this renovation project also lays a solid hardware foundation for Harbin East Station to connect high-speed railway
EMUtrains in the future after the Harbin-Mudanjiang Passenger Dedicated Line and Harbin-Jiamusi High-Speed Railway open.
In addition, to coordinate with the construction of the Harbin-Jiamusi High-Speed Railway and Harbin-Mudanjiang Passenger Dedicated Line projects, starting yesterday, Binjiang Station, which integrates passenger and
freighttransport, will stop handling passenger services and only handle freight services. Passenger trains previously operating have been adjusted to Harbin Station, Harbin East Station, Harbin West Station and Xiangfang Station.
Newly Built Binbei Line Songhua River Road-Rail Bridge Opens to Trains
The reporter learned from the Harbin Railway Bureau that the railway line of the newly built Binbei Line Songhua River Road-Rail Bridge was also completed and opened to traffic yesterday. The bridge is the first modern road-rail bridge in China's severe cold region and the longest river-crossing road-rail bridge in the province, located between Harbin East Station and Xinsongpu Station. The bridge began
constructionon April 15, 2014, with a total length of 8.5 kilometers, including a bridge length of 4,171 meters, a main bridge length of 1,268 meters, and a total steel girder weight of 38,300 tons. According to staff from the construction contractorChina RailwayMajor Bridge Engineering Group, compared with the original old Songhua River road-rail bridge, the new bridge uses new steel plate materials and techniques, with a design service life of 100 years, 20 years longer than the original Dongjiang Bridge.
After completion, the upper deck of the road-rail bridge is a highway bridge with a deck width of 30 meters, designed as dual six-lane, with a design speed of 60 kilometers per hour; the lower deck is a railway bridge with a double-track railway, with a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
According to the construction department, the highway portion of the bridge is currently under intense construction. It is expected that after it opens to traffic, Harbin's Third Ring Road will be closed, and citizens will have one more river-crossing channel.
