According to the railway department, the Xi'an-Chongqing high-speed railway has been included in the national and Shaanxi “13th Five-Year” Plan. Currently, the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission is entrusting the China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group to actively carry out preliminary work such as planning and design, with plans to start construction in 2018. It is introduced that the (Shaanxi) Xi'an-Chongqing high-speed railway runs from Xi'an through Ankang and Wanzhou to Chongqing, with a designed speed of 300 km/h; the stations along the route are: Xi'an, Zhashui, Zhen'an, Ankang, Langao, Chengkou, Kaixian, Wanzhou, Zhongxian, Fengdu, Fuling, and Chongqing, with a planned speed of 300 km/h.
　　By then, it will take only 2 hours from Shaanxi Province to the main urban area of Chongqing; about 1 hour from Wanzhou, Chongqing to Xi'an, Shaanxi. Chengkou, Kaixian, Wanzhou, Zhongxian, and Fengdu in northeastern Chongqing will be connected. It is understood that this high-speed railway will also form a new 350 km/h high-speed rail corridor from Chongqing to Xi'an, Zhengzhou, and Wuhan, realizing a 4-hour rapid rail transportation circle from Chongqing to Xi'an, Kunming, Guiyang, and Wuhan.
　　During the “13th Five-Year” period, Chongqing will follow the approach of “building a high-speed rail framework, improving the freight network, strengthening regional connectivity, and optimizing hub layout” to continue the construction of 1,200 kilometers of railway, start construction of 1,000 kilometers of new railway, and complete 1,000 kilometers of new railway operating mileage. Efforts will be made to start construction of the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway this year, comprehensively accelerate the preliminary work of the Chongqing-Xi'an and Chongqing-Huaihua high-speed railways, and strive to start construction in the early stage of the “13th Five-Year” period; initiate preliminary work for the Chongqing-Guiyang, Lanzhou-Chongqing, and Chongqing-Wuhan high-speed railways, and strive to include them in national planning. After these high-speed rail projects are completed, Chongqing will form an “米”-shaped high-speed rail corridor in 8 directions. High-speed rail projects from Chongqing to Guiyang, Changsha, Wuhan, Xi'an, Lanzhou, etc., will enable Chongqing to reach neighboring provincial capitals within 3 hours.
