"Hard Power" + "High Attractiveness": Weichai Power Perfectly Matches Baoli Forklifts
After Weichai's strategic restructuring of the KION Group, both parties have actively leveraged industrial synergies, allocated resources globally, and achieved a 1+1 greater than 2 effect. KION CEO Gordon Riske stated: "The two parties are highly complementary in products, regional market positions, and technologies, especially in China and other Asian markets, where there is broad development space in the forklift and hydraulics businesses." Since then, the two parties have carried out business synergy and cooperation in multiple areas, and the matching of Weichai with KION's Baoli forklifts is one of them.

As a full-series, full-field power supplier, Weichai has specifically developed three electronically controlled products—WP2.7, WP3.2, and WP4.1—to meet the special needs of the Baoli market, providing a full-series power solution for Baoli forklifts.

To truly develop products that meet customer needs, Weichai invited Baoli to participate from the very beginning of R&D and carried out adaptive development of the engines according to forklift matching requirements. "Forklifts are mainly used indoors. Therefore, they must be smaller than ordinary trucks," introduced Shi Yuanfu, R&D Director of Baoli. "This means the space left for the engine is smaller, and the engine must be small and compact. Moreover, because the driver's position is directly above the engine, the engine must be quieter and have less vibration than truck engines."

"We also have some special requirements," Director Shi said. "For example, we hope the forklift engine has strong power when climbing slopes and low emissions." It is understood that Baoli plans to export forklifts equipped with Weichai engines to Europe at the same time after obtaining Euro III certification. At present, Weichai's latest forklift engines WP2.7 and WP3.2 can already meet the requirements of China III and Euro III emission standards.

At present, most Baoli forklifts equipped with Weichai engines are sold to logistics centers and small transport companies. Ni Feng is the owner of one such company. At this logistics center located in eastern Taizhou, he organizes the direct transport of goods to Shanghai, more than 300 kilometers away. Ni Feng has seven trucks and seven drivers. In May 2015, he specially purchased a 3-ton Baoli forklift equipped with a Weichai engine for loading goods. "At first, I didn't know Weichai also produced engines for forklifts," Ni Feng said. But after using it for a period of time, he was very satisfied with the product: "The engine is more environmentally friendly, with low fuel consumption and low noise. These things are important because inside the logistics center, forklifts must pass through narrow aisles, and there are also people living nearby." Ni Feng said that, moreover, what delighted him even more was another feature of the Weichai engine—high power. "With the same performance, I might previously have needed to buy a larger forklift."

Weichai is one of China's most well-known brands of truck and construction machinery engines. Weichai also produces engines for forklifts—including the models supplied to KION Baoli. "We need to accurately explain the quality of Weichai engines to customers," said Gu Qiqing, Sales Director of Baoli. "But when you talk with customers, their interest is quickly ignited by the excellent reputation of the Weichai brand. They believe Weichai can certainly produce high-quality forklift engines."
