Recently, the cast-in-place beam at Piers 11—18 of the Nantong West Elevated Station Grand Bridge, undertaken by the Shanghai-Nantong Railway Project Department of China Railway Construction's 14th Bureau Group, began pouring. The cast-in-place beam is 228 meters long in total and requires more than 5,800 cubic meters of concrete, making it the longest-span cast-in-place beam in the entire Shanghai-Nantong Railway pre-station works.

The Shanghai-Nantong Railway is an important component of the coastal railway corridor and the Yangtze River Delta intercity rail transit network. Contract Section I of the pre-station works, undertaken by the 14th Bureau Group, is located in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, with a main line length of 11.92 kilometers and a realigned line length of 8.1 kilometers, and a total construction period of 57 months. Since April this year, the project department has made meticulous arrangements and optimized plans for the construction of this cast-in-place beam, which has the largest span in the entire line.

The beam body is a single-box, five-cell continuous box girder, poured in three segments using the cast-in-place method on falsework. To ensure project quality, the project department formulated a plan for centralized concrete supply from two mixing stations and made adequate preparations in terms of unified raw materials, equipment and machinery maintenance, and safe electricity use. Four pump trucks and 52 vibrators were deployed on site, and nearly 200 workers were divided into four teams working in 24-hour shifts. Technical personnel monitored the entire process, delivered technical briefings to every construction worker, and strictly controlled every link, including rebar tying, formwork erection, pouring, and vibration.

To ensure smooth and safe construction, during the transportation of concrete mixer trucks and other vehicles, the project department assigned dedicated personnel to guide and direct traffic along the routes. At the same time, it made full use of the high-tech management tool “drones” to carry out monitoring of the entire road section and the entire process. At present, the largest segment of the cast-in-place beam, with 2,500 cubic meters of concrete, has been poured, and the second segment is under full construction and is expected to be poured in mid-July.
