Concrete typically generates heat during hydration (setting), but if the cement volume is large when concrete is poured, adverse temperature effects may occur. These are classified as "mass concrete" and require the implementation of a temperature control plan. This includes measuring the concrete temperature at different locations during the curing process. The measured temperatures must remain within the allowable range.
TEMP measures temperature using a thermal cable (patented) with digital temperature sensors installed in series (user-definable spacing, e.g., 30 cm). The cable is embedded in the concrete, usually tied to the rebar. The TEMP system is unique in that it can measure many points on a single thermal cable, minimizing testing costs.
Each data logger connects to one thermal cable, collecting and storing the measurements from all sensors on that cable. The sensors themselves have no battery; the battery is located only in the external data logger. The battery lasts 28 days and is easy to recharge and replace, making indefinite monitoring and storage of temperature data possible. Data in the data logger can be quickly transferred to the main unit (TEMP main unit, with a high-resolution screen suitable for various lighting conditions) for convenient viewing at any time.
Analysis and reporting are performed using TEMP-S software, which can quickly and intuitively generate customized reports. It displays the measured temperature versus time (in graphical and tabular form), the maximum and minimum temperatures, the maximum temperature difference (℉), and the allowable limit values entered by the user.
TEMP-S software calculates concrete maturity based on the measured temperatures and helps users estimate concrete strength (based on the established strength-maturity relationship), in accordance with ASTM C1074-11, "Standard Practice for Estimating Concrete Strength by the Maturity Method."
The TEMP instrument is distributed by Inspection Instruments, Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of PDI), and is sold exclusively in China by Earth Products China (EPC).
