Pakistan's Daily Times reported on March 25 that according to the National Highway Authority (NHA), the 392-kilometer Sukkur-Multan Highway, costing 294 billion rupees (about 2.8 billion US dollars), will start construction next month. This section is part of the 1,156-kilometer Lahore-Karachi Highway project. According to NHA officials, the Export-Import Bank of China will provide loan support for the Sukkur-Multan Highway, and the project is expected to be completed within 3 years. It will greatly promote the economic development of southern Punjab and northern Sindh.

In addition, the project will build a modern steel bridge near Fort Munro Hill Station, which will be the first steel bridge in Pakistan built using steel box girder technology.
