对铁路系统的装卸工来说，卸散装货尤其是卸煤炭不仅脏，而且掏车底、清理线路费时费力，又苦又累，还时不时免不了磕磕碰碰，造成人身伤害。
针对这一状况，青岛经营集团组织有多年装卸工作经验的得力人员，成立公关小组，根据散货卸车的实际情况，提出了使用卸车防护板的设想，相当于在车上的散货和地面之间放置了一块滑板，让散货直接滑到地面。根据设计，他们制作了卸车防护板，并在南定小组站经过多次反复的演练改进，逐步探索出了一套实用有效的挖掘机卸散货防护板使用方法。
在演练中，针对搬运挡板相对比较耗时费力的情况，他们还设计制作了运载防护板的三轮小车，节约了劳动力，提高了劳动效率。
实践表明，通过使用挖掘机卸车防护板，既避免了散货在卸车时堆积到货车底下的线路上，解除了装卸工钻车底清理线路的困苦，减轻了装卸工的劳动强度，又较好的保证了作业人员的安全，提高了卸车效率。
