Only half a year after handover, wall cracks and foundation settlement have appeared on the floors. Recently, several owners living in Building 1, Zone 1 of Houban New City, Cangshan District, Fuzhou City, encountered this situation, and the joy of living in a new house instantly turned into concerns about the safety of the building.
Yesterday, the reporter went to Building 1, Zone 1 of Houban New City and walked around the building, finding that foundation settlement of varying degrees had occurred in many places. As a result, some downpipes had fallen off, and there were many cracks on the exterior walls. Some of the cracks had been repaired with cement, but the cracking trend had not slowed down. In Room 101, cracks were visible on the floor and walls. Among the multiple cracks in the bathroom wall, the widest was 0.5 cm, and the sand and ash inside the cracks could be seen. According to several owners of the building, the most serious cracking is on the first floor, and some walls on the second floor are also cracked.

Foundation settlement causes cracks at wall corners
Mr. Lin, an owner in the community, said that they were demolition relocatees from the Yixu area of Fuzhou and were resettled here, and the houses were handed over in May last year. "Moving into a new house is supposed to be a happy event," Mr. Lin said. Before the Spring Festival this year, he accidentally discovered multiple cracks at the bottom of the building. Another owner said that it was fine when the houses were first handed over, but as more and more residents carried out renovations, the cracks became more and more obvious. Many people are worried that there are quality problems with the building.
The construction unit of the building is Fuzhou Construction Development Group Co., Ltd. (formerly Fuzhou Real Estate Development Group Co., Ltd., hereinafter referred to as "Fuzhou Construction Development Group"), and the construction unit is Fuzhou Construction Engineering (Group) Corporation. Yesterday, representatives of the construction party went to the site to inspect and preliminarily judged that the foundation settlement was due to about 80 cm of backfill soil underground. The backfill soil is mainly used for pipe burial, etc., but may have been lost after the building was completed; the wall cracks may be due to uneven thickness of materials during wall construction, or workers rushing to meet deadlines and not constructing properly. The representative believed that the above problems are only construction flaws and do not affect the safety of the building.
The above-mentioned person said, "We will not evade the problem, and citizens can also report the situation to relevant departments. The key now is to first have experts from the housing and construction department come to investigate, and then we will carry out rectification according to the investigation conclusions."
