Urban underground construction is an "inner" project that cannot be seen from the outside; only when the "inner" is done well can the city truly have "face." On January 7, a responsible person from the Shenyang Municipal Construction Committee told reporters, "This year, Shenyang will focus on advancing the construction of underground utility tunnels, water supply and drainage facilities, and other works to further enhance the city's carrying capacity and operational support capacity."
Last year, Shenyang successfully entered the ranks of the first batch of 10 national pilot cities for underground utility tunnels with the highest total score. "In the past, due to institutional fragmentation, roads in many cities were often dug up by one entity and filled by another, then dug again, causing massive waste. But the new model of underground utility tunnel construction introduces various underground facilities into the tunnel, which can gradually eliminate problems such as 'road zippers,'" said relevant experts.
The "pilot" effect begins this year. It is understood that this year, the focus will be on advancing the construction of the South Canal Utility Tunnel, the Tiexi New District Utility Tunnel, and the Wu'ai Street Utility Tunnel.
The South Canal Utility Tunnel starts from Nanjing South Street in the west and ends at Shanlin Road in the east. The tunnel is laid along Shayang Road, Wenyi Road, Dongbinhe Road, Xiaoheyan Road, and Chang'an Road, passing through five major parks: Nanhu Park, Lu Xun Park, Youth Park, Wanliutang Park, and Wanquan Park, with a length of 12.828 kilometers.
The Tiexi New District Utility Tunnel has a construction length of about 21 kilometers: the first phase is the section of No. 25 Road (Hunhe 15th Street—Hunhe 26th Street), with a total length of about 9 kilometers.
The second phase is Shenliao Road and Hunhe 15th Street, with a total length of about 12 kilometers. The project plans to use open-cut trench construction and prefabricated component assembly, accommodating power cables, communication pipelines, water supply pipes, and heating pipes.
The Wu'ai Street Utility Tunnel is planned to be built simultaneously with the south section tunnel of the North-South Expressway, placed above the tunnel, starting from North Wencui Road in the south and ending at North Hanlin Road in the north, with a total length of 2.4 kilometers.
In addition to underground utility tunnels, Shenyang's underground projects this year will also include the construction and replacement of 120 kilometers of gas pipelines; the renovation of 200 kilometers of old heating networks; and the completion of supporting projects such as the 220 kV Wu'ai power transmission and transformation tunnel crossing the Hunhe River and the 66 kV Beita power transmission and transformation incoming line tunnel.
At the same time, Shenyang this year will also strengthen the construction of water supply and drainage facilities, advance the construction of the northern ring water supply network; complete the task of safe drinking water improvement for 150,000 rural people; complete the reinforcement and renovation project of the water transmission pipeline of the Nanta Water Distribution Plant, and implement embankment reinforcement for the water transmission pipelines of the Dahuofang, Huangjia, and Shifo water sources; and implement the urban emergency water source guarantee maintenance and the project of adding dual-circuit power supplies to existing water sources. In terms of drainage facility construction, Shenyang this year will complete the construction of the Wu'ai Pumping Station, start construction of the Shengli Pumping Station, build a new underground pumping station on Changjiang Street, implement the rain and sewage diversion project in the Ningshan area, and simultaneously renovate 40 waterlogging points in the urban area; purchase equipment such as pipeline cleaning vehicles, and clean the drainage networks of 180 major and secondary urban roads including Qingnian Street and Nanjing Street.
