According to a January 5 report by Indonesia's Jakarta Post, on January 4, Indonesian President Joko Widodo convened a cabinet working meeting and issued instructions on accelerating infrastructure construction and the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project. Indonesian Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that infrastructure construction is a government priority, especially railway projects, and that President Joko Widodo hopes to launch railway engineering projects across Indonesia as soon as possible. Joko Widodo explicitly stated the need to understand the problems existing with the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway's construction permits, station construction permits or other permits, and ordered relevant departments to complete the approval of the relevant permits before January 14-15, striving for an official groundbreaking on January 21. The meeting also decided to connect the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway with the existing public transportation network, including the Jakarta light rail project under construction and the Bandung light rail being considered for future construction. Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil said he believes the high-speed railway project will bring many benefits to the local area; in addition to reducing traffic congestion, new economic development zones will also emerge along the high-speed railway line.
