受前两天强降雨影响，5月26日上午10时左右，312省道兴山县水月寺镇白果园村境内开始出现挡墙外倾、路面路基下沉的险情。截至27日，该险情继续加重，挡墙外倾长度达到70米，路面基出现沉降裂缝长度约50米，路面基出现沉降裂缝宽度达7米，裂缝宽度达10-15厘米，随时有坍塌危险。
险情发生后，兴山县政府迅速组织相关人员赶赴现场，在现场设置路障，派专人守护，确保过往行人的安全，并在险情发生地公路两端6公里处的学堂坪桥和王家台桥安排专人值守，分流过往车辆，过往车辆一律绕道水月寺集镇通行。据兴山县交通运输局工作人员介绍，险情抢修工程正在加快进行中，但由于工程量较大，恢复交通还有待时日。
