Recently, at the 2015 China Innovation Design Conference hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the XCMG all-terrain crane was named a 2015 “China Good Design” alongside national key projects such as the CRH380A high-speed EMU, the 3,000-meter deepwater drilling platform, the Jiaolong manned submersible, and the Beidou remote-sensing satellite management platform. XCMG is also the only enterprise in the construction machinery industry to receive this honor.
　　At present, China's manufacturing industry is facing the dual challenge of developed countries revitalizing high-end manufacturing and developing countries competing at low cost. How to enhance innovation design capability is of great significance for implementing the innovation-driven development strategy, improving the competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing, and accelerating the transformation from a “major manufacturing country” to a “strong creative country.” To this end, the State Council explicitly included improving innovation design capability in the “Made in China 2025” plan, and innovation design has officially become an important component of the national innovation-driven development strategy.
　　Against this background, in order to comprehensively improve China's innovation design capability and give full play to the important role of engineering science and technology in building a “strong creative country,” the Chinese Academy of Engineering held this “China Good Design” selection event. The selection was conducted by 15 academicians and more than 100 experts on the basis of in-depth research, adhering to the principles of scientific objectivity, fairness, and justice, to select products or projects that are superior in innovation design capability.
　　The XCMG all-terrain crane being named “China Good Design” is full recognition of XCMG's resolve to shoulder the historical mission of independently developing all-terrain cranes against the historical backdrop of a domestic industry gap, to break foreign monopolies, and to revitalize the national major equipment manufacturing industry. It is also a concentrated reflection of XCMG's continuous improvement in innovation design capability, including innovation in R&D models, key core technologies, and R&D systems.
　　The XCMG all-terrain crane being named “China Good Design” this time demonstrates XCMG's strong innovation design capability. Under the guidance of the “three highs and one large” innovation strategy, XCMG pioneered in the industry a R&D model of “parallel design” of products and technologies and “deep integration” of product R&D with market users, and by establishing overseas R&D centers, it has achieved global resource coordination, cultivation of core components, and innovation in the R&D process. Supported by advanced R&D models and a global R&D system, XCMG has shortened the average R&D cycle of all-terrain cranes from 30 months to 18 months, and product reliability has also steadily improved.

　　In a decade, the XCMG all-terrain crane has grown from nothing to something, from something to strength, and from “Made in China” to “Created in China.” Guided and supported by the national innovation-driven strategy, XCMG will continue to enhance its innovation design capability and strive to become a world-class enterprise that is globally leading and highly value-creative.
