On October 25, due to road construction and continuous rainfall, a landslide occurred in Longchi Village, Dahe Town, Xixiang County. A local villager and a technician from the construction unit were buried by the landslide. Despite all-out excavation efforts, both unfortunately died. The incident site is more than 70 kilometers from Xixiang County seat. When the reporter arrived, collapsed rocks and earth were scattered along more than 200 meters of the highway. Several excavators were working at the scene, the road was muddy, and police cars and ambulances were parked by the roadside. An eyewitness told the reporter that the site is located between the county seat and Dahe Town. Because the county was building the Xixiang-Dahe red tourism route, a special project department was established. Not long ago, explosives were used for mountain excavation during road construction, causing a large amount of rocks and earth to accumulate at the site. Therefore, buses traveling between the county seat and Dahe Town had to stop at the site and transfer passengers, who had to climb over hundreds of meters of rubble to reach the other side.
It started raining in Xixiang on the 23rd, and rocks occasionally rolled down the mountain. At around 12:00 on the 24th, a bus from Dahe Town to the county seat arrived at the site. As usual, passengers got off to transfer to the other side. A man walking at the end and another man coming from the opposite direction were buried by rocks and soil that suddenly fell from the mountain. The reporter learned from local villagers that the deceased local male villager was 41 years old, and the other victim was a technician from the road construction project department, only about 30 years old.
Because the road was cut off and impassable, the reporter contacted Xu Ming'an, Party Secretary of Dahe Town, by phone. Secretary Xu said that after the accident, the town immediately rushed to the scene for rescue and reported to the county. Because continuous rain made rescue difficult, the town mobilized all cadres and road construction personnel for all-out rescue. By 1 a.m. on the 25th, the two buried persons were found, but neither showed signs of life.
