According to the website of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on the 3rd, in order to meet the growth of aviation traffic demand, improve the airport's comprehensive support capacity, and promote the development of regional tourism resources and economic and social development, the NDRC agreed to implement the Golmud Airport expansion and renovation project.

 　 　 According to the approval, the current phase of the project is designed to meet the target of 750,000 passenger throughput and 2,250 tons of cargo and mail throughput by 2025. The main construction content includes: building a new 8,000-square-meter terminal building, an apron with 3 aircraft stands, a 6,580-square-meter parking lot, a 400-square-meter cargo warehouse, and a 1,160-square-meter fire station; converting the existing terminal building into a general aviation waiting room and airport business rooms; repairing the existing runway, taxiway, flood interception ditch, perimeter fence, and other facilities; building a new control tower and a 1,000-square-meter air traffic control building; upgrading and renovating air traffic control facilities and equipment; and supporting the construction of power supply, water supply, heating and ventilation, and other facilities.

　　 The total investment of the project is 373 million yuan, of which the NDRC arranges 130 million yuan from the central budget investment, the Civil Aviation Administration arranges 180 million yuan from the Civil Aviation Development Fund, and the remaining 63 million yuan is to be solved by the Qinghai Provincial Government through fiscal funds.
