After 30 hours of continuous operation, the riverbed foundation of Pier 4 of the Zhuankou Yangtze River Bridge has been completed. On the 19th, the construction contractor CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. revealed that this means the Zhuankou Bridge has established a foothold at the riverbed and will soon commence piling construction.

It is understood that Piers 3 and 4 of the Zhuankou Yangtze River Bridge are located in the Yangtze River navigation channel and are the two main piers of the bridge. The foundation construction involves pouring a solid concrete platform on the riverbed and is the first important construction milestone in the bridge project.

How is concrete poured in the turbulent river? CCCC Second Harbor Engineering adopted a steel cofferdam to create a waterless construction area on the riverbed. On October 8, the steel cofferdam for Pier 4 was successfully launched and accurately positioned. After more than two months of preparation, the silt was removed from the waterless area, exposing the riverbed rock, and the construction conditions were met. Subsequently, with the support of two onshore mixing stations, nearly 2,500 cubic meters of concrete were injected into the riverbed,牵引 by one 30-ton crane vessel, one 70-ton crane vessel, and two concrete pumps, progressing gradually from the central area toward the upstream or downstream side, forming a concrete foundation of about 100 square meters on the riverbed.

According to the construction project department, after the foundation construction is completed, Pier 4 will enter the pile foundation construction stage. That is, several holes with a diameter of 3 meters will be drilled into the riverbed foundation, then 32 piles will be driven in a "plum blossom" pattern, and then poured into a main bridge pier. Subsequently, Pier 3 will be constructed in the same way. According to the construction plan, before the Yangtze River flood season arrives in May next year, the underwater portions of Piers 3 and 4 must be fully completed.
