As an important platform supporting the development of Yangjiang's exhibition economy, the construction progress of the Yangjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center, a key municipal government project, has attracted widespread attention from citizens and the business community. On the 20th, it was learned from relevant municipal departments that the exhibition center has been under construction for two months, with one-third of the foundation work completed, and efforts are being made to complete the basement construction before the Spring Festival next year. Upon completion, the project will become one of the city's largest exhibition complexes and, together with the International Hardware and Knife-Scissors Trade City and Fengtai Xintiandi, will form the "Central Business District" in the north of the city.

The investment entity for the Yangjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center project is Yangjiang Hengcai Urban Investment Holding Co., Ltd., and the construction is organized by the Municipal Public Works Management Bureau. The exhibition center will build an international exchange platform integrating commerce, exhibition, culture, tourism, science and education, while showcasing Yangjiang's urban cultural image and spiritual outlook. The center is located at the intersection of Zhenxing Road and Kangtai Road in the urban area, adjacent to the 1.38 million square meter international block complex—Fengtai Xintiandi and the International Hardware and Knife-Scissors Trade City. The project has a total approved investment of 150 million yuan, covers a total area of about 35,500 square meters, and has a total construction area of about 19,375 square meters.

A relevant person in charge of the Municipal Housing, Planning and Construction Bureau introduced that the main body of the exhibition center adopts a double-layer steel truss structure with glass curtain walls. The functional layout is divided into an exhibition center and a media center, of which the exhibition center has a total construction area of 8,185 square meters, and the media center has a total construction area of 6,139 square meters.

On the afternoon of the 20th, the reporter visited the construction site of the exhibition center. Despite the light rain, workers were still operating percussion pile drivers in intense construction. A relevant person in charge of the construction party told the reporter that there are currently 120 workers and 18 percussion pile drivers on the site, working in two shifts 24 hours a day without interruption. "Pile foundation construction has been completed by one-third and is expected to be fully completed around January 20 next year." The person in charge said that after the pile foundation is completed, efforts will be concentrated on the basement construction, striving to complete the construction before the Spring Festival. It is reported that due to the relatively complex geological conditions at the construction site, the construction volume and difficulty are greater than expected, but with the help of relevant government departments and enterprises, the construction is generally progressing smoothly. The project is initially planned to be completed by the end of December 2015, and will then be handed over to Yangjiang Hengcai Urban Investment Holding Co., Ltd. for management and use.
