On December 9, while excavating a septic tank foundation pit in a new residential area in Anxin County, Baoding City, a sudden collapse occurred, burying a worker at the bottom. Thanks to timely rescue, the buried worker survived.
　　The incident occurred at the Mingzhuwan new residential area on Chongwen Street, Anxin County. At around 9:30 a.m. that day, workers were excavating the septic tank foundation pit. When the excavation reached about 4 meters deep, due to soft soil, the overlying soil suddenly collapsed. A worker in his 40s working at the bottom of the pit was instantly buried by the collapsing soil. After receiving the alarm, the Anxin Fire Brigade quickly rushed to the scene to rescue the buried worker.
　　After using an excavator to remove about 2 meters of soil from the upper part of the pit, the exact location of the buried worker could not be determined. To avoid secondary injury, the firefighters abandoned the excavator and, with the cooperation of workers on site, manually excavated the area where the worker might be buried. At around 10:10, the buried worker was finally found and quickly dug out. Due to prolonged oxygen deprivation and suffocation, the worker was unconscious but still had vital signs due to timely rescue. The worker was then carried on a stretcher by firefighters to an ambulance and taken to the hospital for treatment. It was learned on the 10th that the worker was no longer in life-threatening condition after treatment.
