Recently, at the construction site of the Mutao River Grand Bridge, under the command of Deputy Project Manager Liu Yong, a 29.6-meter-long, 160-ton concrete box girder was slowly lowered by the bridge erection machine and safely and steadily placed into its predetermined position, with commissioning successfully completed. As an important node project on the Ganyu section of Haibin Avenue, the successful hoisting of the last box girder of the Mutao River Grand Bridge marks that the project has also entered its final critical stage.

“A little higher on the left, a little more even on the right, good, good……” At around 8 a.m. that day, as the box girder slowly descended, construction workers on the foundation observed while coordinating with operators to continuously carry out final紧张的 adjustments. Ten minutes later, when the box girder accurately engaged with the pier foundation and emitted a solid muffled sound, fireworks instantly rose over the site to celebrate the smooth closure of the project, and cheers erupted one after another. “The last box girder has been successfully erected, but there are still complex procedures to follow.” According to Liu Yong, the workers will next carry out welding work to connect with the main bridge and ensure a seamless fit.

The Mutao River Grand Bridge on the Ganyu section of Haibin Avenue has a total length of 1,007.2 meters and a deck width of 32.5 meters. The bridge has 152 pile foundations, 128 columns, and 330 box girders, with an investment of 110 million yuan. After construction began on April 18 this year, in order to ensure the smooth progress of the project, the construction unit actively mobilized relevant technical forces and continuously optimized the construction organization plan in response to a series of construction difficulties such as coastal soft foundations, massive earthwork excavation and backfilling, shortage of material sources, and unstable roadbeds. It strengthened resource allocation, made meticulous arrangements, applied scientific management, and carried out continuous operations day and night. The Mutao River Grand Bridge has now fully entered the bridge deck system construction stage and is expected to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of the year.

“In order to speed up construction progress, some new technologies and new processes were also adopted in the project construction.” Zhang Zhen, deputy chief of the Comprehensive Planning Section of the Ganyu District Transport Bureau, who is responsible for supervising construction progress, told the reporter that in the underground pile foundation construction, bored cast-in-place pile technology was adopted, which is fast and efficient, and all pile foundations were completed about 10 days ahead of the original plan; in the box girder deck installation construction, the method of simultaneous erection from both sides of the bridge body was adopted for the first time, advancing section by section, which was fast in installation, good in quality control, and further shortened the construction time.

It is understood that the Ganyu section of Haibin Avenue is about 11.9 kilometers long in total, with a road width of 36.5 meters and a total project investment of about 930 million yuan. The project is planned to be fully completed and opened to traffic in June 2015.

“The Hankou River Grand Bridge on Haibin Avenue has completed the erection of its last box girder, and the completion of the girder erection task for the Mutao River Grand Bridge marks the full connection of the Ganyu section of Haibin Avenue.” Zhang Zhen told the reporter that at present, the entire Ganyu section project of Haibin Avenue has completed a total investment of about 770 million yuan.
