Wuhan–Shiyan High-Speed Railway to Ensure Construction Starts by Year-End

What is the latest progress on major projects of high concern, such as the Wuhan–Shiyan High-Speed Railway, the Tianhe Airport Phase III Project, and the “645” Yangtze River Deepwater Channel Regulation Project? The second meeting of the Provincial Key Project Command Headquarters, held yesterday, disclosed the latest information.

The Wuhan–Shiyan High-Speed Railway has broken with convention in carrying out preliminary work. The project feasibility study report has passed preliminary review, the planning site selection demonstration report has been completed, the preliminary design for the first section to start construction has been completed, and the first-phase registered capital for the provincial level and for Xiangyang, Shiyan, and Suizhou cities has been subscribed in full. Next, the province will explore market-based ways to introduce strategic investors and social capital to advance project construction. At present, the command headquarters is optimizing certain local plans to ensure that conditions for construction are met within the year.

The pile foundation work for the shared deep foundation pit of the Tianhe Airport T3 Terminal has been fully completed, and the project is about to achieve “capping of the underground structure and the terminal rising above the horizon.” As of now, apart from the air traffic control project, construction of all other projects is in full swing, with cumulative investment of 12 billion yuan, including 8 billion yuan completed this year, accounting for 80% of the annual investment plan. The airport comprehensive support building is scheduled to be put into use in November. According to the target, the airport Phase III Project will be fully completed in 2016.

The “645” Yangtze River Deepwater Channel Regulation Project is carrying out model tests in full swing. The province is actively seeking to have the project included in the national “13th Five-Year Plan.”
