The last section of concrete box girder on the Minzu Avenue-Guanshan Avenue Viaduct is under construction
The traffic congestion pressure on Xiongchu Avenue is expected to be reduced in the near future. Yesterday, reporters visited the eastern section of the Xiongchu Avenue reconstruction project and found that the viaduct section from Minzu Avenue to Guanshan Avenue will be the first to be completed by the end of this month. At that time, the supports and construction facilities under the bridge will be fully removed, and the traffic congestion on related roads will be alleviated.
Yesterday morning, reporters came to the eastern section of the Xiongchu Avenue reconstruction project, from Chuping Road to the Third Ring Road Interchange, and visited the 7-kilometer section along the way. Reporters saw from Chuping Road to Guanshan Avenue that steel box girders were being erected or concrete box girders were being poured; in the direction from Guanshan Avenue to the Third Ring Road Interchange, some bridge piers have also been erected, and construction of the substructure of the piers, such as pile foundations and pile caps, is underway.
The project manager of the Mechanized Construction Company of Wuhan Municipal Group, the construction contractor, told reporters that in the eastern section of the Xiongchu Avenue reconstruction project, the approximately 1.3-kilometer section between Minzu Avenue and Guanshan Avenue will be the first to be completed by the end of October, that is, the main structure of the viaduct will be completed. Reporters climbed onto the viaduct and saw that all steel box girders had been hoisted into place, with only a small section still undergoing concrete box girder construction.
According to the manager, after this section of the viaduct is completed, the supports and supporting construction facilities under the bridge will be fully removed, and the road will be returned to the public. The congestion on this section will be alleviated. After completion, there will still be supporting works such as installation of crash barriers, sound barriers, streetlights, and asphalt paving on the road surface.
Before the end of this year, the viaduct from Chuping Road to Minzu Avenue will also be basically completed.
Generally, after completion, the ancillary facilities of the viaduct still require two to three months of construction before it basically meets the conditions for traffic opening. However, reporters learned yesterday that due to the difficulty of demolition, the on and off ramps of several intersection interchanges in the eastern section of Xiongchu Avenue could not be constructed simultaneously. After the demolition is completely finished, simultaneous construction of all ramps will still take four to five months to complete. This means that even if the main viaduct construction meets the traffic opening conditions, if the ramp construction is not carried out, the entire line or part of it still cannot be opened to traffic. However, the traffic congestion on the road under the viaduct will be significantly alleviated.
Reporters also learned on the same day that after the viaduct here is opened to traffic, the road widening and reconstruction construction under the bridge will be launched immediately.
