　　The problem of weak rock in geotechnical engineering has been studied more in underground excavation and slope engineering. Relatively speaking, there is less research on weak rock as a foundation in engineering construction, so related problems often cause trouble in engineering practice.

　　In recent years, as projects with large-load foundations on weak rock, such as high-rise buildings and nuclear power plants, have increased, the demand for research on weak rock has also increased. Technical issues such as how to determine the bearing capacity of weak rock foundations and calculate foundation settlement are continuously attracting the attention of geotechnical and structural engineers. A large number of completed engineering practices and related tests provide favorable conditions for discussing and solving the problems of weak rock foundations.

　　The Engineering Investigation Branch of the Architectural Society of China and the Editorial Department of Engineering Investigation plan to jointly hold the "Symposium on Weak Rock Foundations" and publish a special issue on weak rock foundations in Engineering Investigation, in order to promote research on soft rock foundation problems and the summary of engineering practice experience. Notice is hereby given regarding the symposium and the special issue publication.

　　The weak rock referred to in this symposium mainly includes incompletely diagenetic Neogene strata, extremely soft rock and extremely fractured rock in codes, moderately weathered and completely weathered rock, etc., whose properties vary greatly in different regions and under different conditions.

1 Conference themes

Weak rock engineering investigation methods and geotechnical property evaluation;

Methods for determining the bearing capacity of weak rock and engineering experience;

Calculation and evaluation of foundation settlement related to weak rock, etc.

2 Conference time and location

Symposium time: tentatively around December 5, 2014, duration 2 days. Specific time to be determined.

Symposium location: Nanning City, specific location to be determined.

3 Paper solicitation

The main papers of this conference will be compiled into a special column of the regular issue of Engineering Investigation.

We welcome engineering technicians to summarize new discoveries, new technologies, new data, engineering examples, etc. in the practice and research of weak rock foundations and write papers. Please submit the full text of papers to the conference secretariat by email before November 10, 2014.
