On September 16, reporters learned from the CBD Management Committee that the Beijing CBD core area will build the city's largest underground public space, with a total area of about 520,000 square meters. It is the underground engineering project with the deepest excavation, largest area, and most complex functions in Beijing. At the same time, 19 commercial buildings in the core area will also be fully connected at the first underground level.

The CBD core area starts from East Third Ring Road in the west, extends to Zhenzhi Road in the east, borders Guanghua Road in the north and Jianguo Road in the south, covering an area of about 30 hectares. It consists of 18 plots and is currently the key land under development in Beijing CBD. The above-ground and underground areas of the CBD core area total 4.1 million square meters, of which the above-ground building area is about 2.7 million square meters. 19 commercial buildings will rise there, including the "China Zun," Beijing's tallest building at over 500 meters, forming the landmark building cluster of the CBD core area.
A relevant person in charge of the Beijing CBD Management Committee introduced that within the underground space of the CBD core area, Line 1, Line 10, the planned R1 Line, Line 17, and the bus transfer station on the northeast side of Guomao Bridge will all be connected, becoming underground pedestrian walkways. Both sides will become commercial streets, allowing pedestrians to directly shop and dine on their way to transfers. At the same time, buildings in the core area will also be fully connected at the first underground level.
In addition, to provide convenient and fast urban traffic connections, complete municipal supporting facilities, and emergency disaster prevention and refuge space for the entire CBD core area, and to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the core area, the underground public space of the CBD core area is divided into five underground levels. The underground space mainly includes underground transportation systems, underground commercial streets, underground public buildings, and underground infrastructure.
