It is understood that the Xiongya Fort Coastal Defense Culture Museum is invested and constructed by the Fengcheng Central Community. Construction began in October last year. The museum has a building area of 2,062 square meters, divided into two floors, with two large exhibition halls. The museum is planned to be divided into exhibition areas such as the activities of Xiongya's ancestors, the establishment of guard posts, Ming Dynasty coastal defense, Qing Dynasty coastal defense, and military farming and provincial tin. The exhibits mainly include artifacts unearthed from the Xiongya Fort area dating back to the Neolithic Age and the Eastern Zhou period, items related to Ming Dynasty coastal defense history, figures, and events, facilities, warships, and weapons of Ming and Qing coastal defense, as well as items related to the folk customs, production, and daily life of the people of Xiongya Fort.
To enrich the museum's collection and showcase the ancient folk customs of Xiongya Fort, the Fengcheng Central Community has widely carried out a campaign to collect folk objects within its jurisdiction. Since June, hundreds of old objects have been collected, including eaves tiles from ancient buildings, horse-tying stones, and ancient weights known as 'quan'. Many of these old items are treasured heirlooms from villagers' own homes. They record the profound cultural heritage of the Xiongya Fort area and possess significant historical value.
Xiongya Fort, officially known as the Xiongya Guard Battalion, is located 4,300 meters northeast of the Fengcheng Central Community. The fort rests against the western hills and overlooks the East China Sea, with a strategically important terrain that has historically been a military coastal defense stronghold. It was first built in the 35th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty, with a history of over 600 years. Over the past 600 years, Xiongya Fort has weathered many vicissitudes and played a significant role in resisting Japanese pirates and the War of Resistance Against Japan. It demonstrates to people the national spirit of the soldiers and civilians of Xiongya, who were unyielding against violence, resisted foreign aggression, fought courageously, and strived for self-improvement. As Qingdao's first coastal defense culture museum, the Xiongya Fort Coastal Defense Culture Museum will become an important base for people to learn about coastal defense culture and receive patriotic education.
