　　Laying Rainwater and Sewage Pipelines

　　Wang Mingqin, director of the Huairou Municipal Administration and City Appearance Management Committee, introduced that the street and alley renovation project aims to improve the overall level of environmental construction in the district, optimize the travel environment for residents, and ensure travel safety. On the basis of the comprehensive renovation of 25 main streets last year, comprehensive environmental renovation was carried out on 24 roads, including Sizhong Huanhu Road, Huguang South Street, Kaifang East Road, and Fuyuan East Road, mainly hardening the road surface and laying some rainwater and sewage pipelines.　　

　　Up to now, the project has paved 25,380 square meters of roads, 12,380 square meters of sidewalk bricks, 600 meters of rainwater pipelines, and 8,550 square meters of curbstones. All projects are expected to be completed by the end of August.

　　Building Temporary Public Toilets and Bus Shelters　　

　　Wang Mingqin said that the projects undertaken by the Municipal Administration and City Appearance Management Committee in the demonstration zone include: replacement of manhole covers along both sides of Fanqi Road, installation of streetlights on Yanqi Lake Road, construction of streetlights from the intersection of Xiazhuang Village to the north side of Fanqi Road Bridge, construction of bus shelters along Fanqi Road, construction of temporary public toilets and vending kiosks, determination of locations and installation of trash bins along Fanqi Road, Yanci South Road, Yanci North Road, and Yanqi Lake Road.　　

　　Up to now, 116 streetlights have been installed on Yanqi Lake Road, 1,487 embedded lights and 1,280 external lights have been installed on the Yanqi Lake Dam, and 937 sets of light strips have been installed. The streetlight construction from the intersection of Xiazhuang Village to the north side of Fanqi Road Bridge has installed 58 streetlights, all completed and put into use. Six mobile temporary public toilets and three mobile vending kiosks have been installed.

　　Thirty-seven sets of trash bins have been set up along Fanqi Road, Yanci South Road, Yanci North Road, and Yanqi Lake Road, and four bus shelters have been built along Fanqi Road.　　

　　Street renovation and infrastructure construction in the Yanqi Lake Demonstration Zone are the focus of the work, with unprecedented support in terms of both funding and manpower. "Especially the street and alley renovation work, which had actually been ongoing but at a slow pace, was quickly implemented this time thanks to the APEC opportunity," said Wang Mingqin.　　

253 Volunteers to Serve the Meeting　　

　　Beijing Times (Reporter Pan Shanju) - On the morning of the day before yesterday, Beijing Vice Mayor Cheng Hong, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Counselor Xia Jingge, and others visited the main venue of the APEC Third Senior Officials' Meeting at the Beijing Hotel, inspected the enterprise exhibition area for business activities, and listened to a detailed English explanation by Xu Han, a volunteer from Beijing University of Technology. As of yesterday, a total of 253 volunteers have participated in serving the "APEC Third Senior Officials' Meeting."　　

　　After listening to the explanation, Vice Mayor Cheng Hong highly praised the volunteers' full spirit, good appearance, and fluent English explanations, and encouraged them to master explanation skills to provide even better service to domestic and international guests during the upcoming meetings. They should spread Chinese culture, tell China's story well, and use their youthful passion to create the most beautiful "Chinese business card."　　

　　It is reported that 42 students from the University of International Business and Economics and 2 volunteers from Ningbo, all from the Document Center, arrived at the Beijing Hotel at 6:30 a.m. on the first day of the meeting to prepare documents. The Document Center's tasks are heavy and trivial; the more than 1.6 million pages of documents required for this meeting will all be printed and distributed by this department. On the day before the meeting alone, volunteers printed and sorted 5,050 documents for four meetings.　　

Beijing to Distribute 30,000 English Handbooks　　

　　To meet the citizens' needs for learning and using APEC-related English, Beijing will distribute 30,000 copies of the "APEC Practical English Handbook," enabling citizens to conduct English conversations politely, culturedly, accurately, and fluently in foreign-related interactions, showcasing the good spirit of Beijing citizens.　　

　　The book is rich in content, covering APEC background knowledge, common vocabulary for staff, common English expressions for staff, common English expressions for citizens, translations of common APEC expressions in nine languages, abbreviations of common APEC terms with Chinese-English comparisons, and the English names of existing economies.
