Shandong: Building Lifespan Must Not Be Less Than 50 Years

The provincial government recently issued the "Opinions on Further Improving Building Quality," explicitly stating that engineering and building quality must follow the four principles of solidity and safety, comfort and convenience, aesthetics and elegance, and energy conservation and environmental protection. The normal service life of ordinary buildings must not be less than 50 years, and that of commemorative buildings and important buildings must not be less than 100 years.
According to a report by the News Center of Shandong Radio and Television's "Shandong News Network," the "Opinions" also propose ensuring that buildings remain undamaged in minor earthquakes, repairable in moderate earthquakes, and standing in major earthquakes. Architectural design should focus on creating distinctive block spaces and urban and rural landscapes. It is necessary to ensure maximum energy conservation, land conservation, and water conservation throughout the entire life cycle of buildings. Starting next year, the design standards of 75% energy conservation for residential buildings and 65% energy conservation for public buildings will be fully implemented.
