The "Great Nation, Great Era: China Economic Report" —— "May Talk: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Integration, Whose 'Turf' Is It?", hosted by China National Radio's Economic Voice and CNR.cn, was held this afternoon. Ma Guangyuan, a member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and an economist, said that the rigidly hierarchical administrative divisions are one of the obstacles hindering Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration, and that Tianjin's status as a municipality directly under the central government should be abolished and a Zhili Province should be established across the three regions of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.
Ma Guangyuan pointed out that, compared with the Yangtze River Delta economic belt and the Pearl River Delta economic belt, the industries of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei are not complementary; competition among some industries is unusually fierce, while development gaps among other industries are enormous, all of which is unconducive to achieving Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration.
Ma Guangyuan suggested that Tianjin's status as a municipality directly under the central government should be abolished and Tianjin should be made the capital of Hebei, so as to narrow the economic development gap among Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.
