On February 17, entrusted by the National Development and Reform Commission, the China International Engineering Consulting Corporation organized an expert assessment team attending the Chengdu New Airport (Pre-feasibility Study Report) assessment meeting to conduct an on-site investigation at the Chengdu New Airport site in Jianyang and learn about the project's preliminary situation.

The Chengdu New Airport is a major transportation project designated in the National Comprehensive Transportation System Development Plan for the 12th Five-Year Plan period. The Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government attach great importance to the site selection and planning and construction of the Chengdu New Airport. In accordance with the site selection principles of "airspace priority" and "scientificity, feasibility, economy, and sustainability," and after systematic demonstration and repeated comparative studies, on July 31, 2012, the Provincial Government Executive Meeting deliberated and approved the Chengdu New Airport site selection plan, designating the Lujia site in Jianyang as the preferred site for the Chengdu New Airport. On June 20, 2013, the Civil Aviation Administration of China officially approved the Chengdu New Airport site selection report, confirming the Lujia site in Jianyang as the site for the Chengdu New Airport.

The expert assessment team learned in detail about the basic conditions of the Chengdu New Airport site in Jianyang and held that the Jianyang site area for the Chengdu New Airport has an advantageous location and convenient transportation, and that its topography and landforms, air transport conditions, and natural climate meet the advantages and conditions for building a large international aviation hub. The planning and construction of the Chengdu New Airport are of great significance to the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, accelerating the development and construction of Tianfu New Area, and driving the scientific and accelerated development of the Chengdu Economic Zone and the South Sichuan Economic Zone.

According to the arrangements for this assessment work, from the 18th to the 19th, the expert assessment team for the Chengdu New Airport pre-feasibility study will hold an assessment meeting for discussion and further refine and form the assessment team's opinions to be submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission.
