With the perseverance of “I will search high and low,” she has completed six technological innovations and received titles such as Advanced Female Employee and Outstanding Communist Party Member from China Railway Electrification Engineering Group Co., Ltd., becoming a model of excellence in the company;
With the sense of responsibility of “though my position is low, I dare not forget my country,” all the project completion documents she was responsible for were archived in one go, making her a benchmark unanimously recognized by her colleagues;
With the generosity of “turning into spring mud to protect the flowers,” she has trained a group of highly skilled technical backbones and become a beloved mentor to her apprentices.
She is Fang Zhi, an ordinary 34-year-old female worker in the Fifth Branch of China Railway Electrification First Engineering Co., Ltd., who, through her quiet dedication, embodies her love for the cause of railway construction.
Great Achievements in a Small Post
In 2003, Fang Zhi came to the project department of the Tianjin-Qinhuangdao Passenger Transport Corridor Speed-Up and Reconstruction Project of China Railway Electrification First Engineering Co., Ltd. When she first arrived at the project department, Fang Zhi was responsible for organizing the commencement and completion documents of the Tianjin-Qinhuangdao Passenger Transport Corridor Speed-Up and Reconstruction Project. A document controller is equivalent to the document manager of a project department and is the most important auxiliary post for project completion acceptance, award application, settlement, and claims.
Slight in build, she is meticulous in her work.
Wang Yagang is a project department technician who became Fang Zhi’s apprentice in the mentor-apprentice program of China Railway Electrification First Engineering Co., Ltd. Speaking of Fang Zhi, Wang Yagang praised her repeatedly: “I remember when pouring the circuit breaker foundation in the substation, Fang Zhi, as the document controller, had to go to the laboratory to collect the cement compressive strength test report. While reviewing it, she found that the cement strength of one foundation was slightly poor, and she insisted that the work team demolish the already poured foundation that did not meet the strength standard.”
In 2006, during the Quwo station lighting project, the lamp bridge installation encountered a major obstacle, and the construction workers of the work team were all scratching their heads. Fang Zhi volunteered to take on the burden despite having no relevant experience. From then on, the concept of off-work hours disappeared from her schedule; no matter how late the on-site construction workers worked, she stayed at the front line with her colleagues.
Fang Zhi bought building blocks to simulate the installation process of the lamp bridge on the battlefield and believed that the lamp bridge hoisting plan could be further optimized. She then consulted materials and books and finally determined to adopt the method of “shifting the overhead contact system” during power outages for construction. Through the improvement, this lamp bridge installation not only solved the long-standing problem of time-consuming and labor-intensive lamp bridge installation that had troubled the company, but also created an economic benefit of 135,000 yuan.
Moreover, Fang Zhi also achieved a great deal in QC research and development. The QC achievement “Solving the Problem of Installing Large-Span Lamp Bridges in Electrified Sections,” organized and published by Fang Zhi, won the Beijing Municipal Excellence Award; in 2009, the QC achievement “Improving the One-Time Pass Rate of Hot-Melt Welding of Copper-Clad Steel Ground Grids” increased the hot-melt welding pass rate in sandy areas from 81.76% to 97.86% and saved the company 26,268 yuan...
A Young Female Worker with a Broad Mind
The Fang Zhi before us has a dignified and steady face with a slightly shy smile; she speaks softly, as if always afraid of disturbing others. It is hard to imagine that her nickname in the industry is “Teacher.”
“If you can do it yourself, you can do one; if everyone can do it, the collective can do it. In the long run, only by constantly improving yourself and helping others improve as much as possible will such a team continuously enhance its combat effectiveness and keep moving forward.” This is a sentence Fang Zhi often says.
Since 2008, the Fifth Branch has set up completion document training classes. Every year in July and August for college student training and in December for year-end training, the director of the Human Resources Department asks Fang Zhi to lecture on the preparation, organization, and handover of construction project completion documents.
The technical director of the Fifth Branch said with emotion: “When listening to Fang Zhi’s lectures, you dare not miss a single word, because what she teaches is very practical for our sites. There is rarely such systematic teaching at ordinary times.”
In 2009, during her time at the Daban project department, Fang Zhi also participated in the mentor-apprentice program. She taught her apprentices hand in hand, and the apprentices she trained, such as Chao Tian, Li Lixia, and Li Lijie, have now become sought after by various project departments.
Since starting work in 2000, Fang Zhi has worked overtime more than 65 days per year on average and has stayed at construction sites for the Spring Festival for four consecutive years.
Behind the “workaholic,” few people know that due to frequent business trips to Lhasa, high-altitude oxygen deficiency and high-intensity work have caused her frequent dizziness and memory decline. But whenever she receives a task, she still rushes to the forefront without hesitation. It is this work attitude that has earned her the respect and praise of her colleagues.
