Construction of the Shanghai-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge, the control project of the Shanghai-Nantong Railway, began on March 1, marking the start of the Shanghai-Nantong Railway construction. Once completed, travel from Shanghai to Nantong is expected to take less than one hour, one hour shorter than the current car journey. It is of great significance for improving cross-river channel capacity, perfecting the regional comprehensive transport system, enhancing the radiating and driving role of Shanghai as a central city, and promoting economic and social development in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The Shanghai-Nantong Railway is an important part of the rapid rail transit network in the Yangtze River Delta region. It passes through Nantong City in Jiangsu Province, the four county-level cities of Zhangjiagang, Changshu, Taicang and Kunshan under the jurisdiction of Suzhou City, and Jiading District of Shanghai, with a total length of about 137 kilometers. The project is built to the National Railway Class I standard with a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour, and a total construction period of five and a half years.

The Shanghai-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge is located in the Chengtong reach of the Yangtze River, with Nantong City on the north bank and Zhangjiagang City on the south bank. It is a key control project of the Shanghai-Nantong Railway. The bridge has a total length of 11.072 kilometers and is built jointly to the standard of a four-track railway and a six-lane expressway. The main bridge consists of three parts: the main navigation channel bridge, the dedicated navigation channel bridge and the Henggangsha bridge. The main navigation channel bridge is a five-span cable-stayed bridge with two towers and a main span of 1,092 meters.
