Recently, the draft of XCMG's first international standard, which it led the development of as convener, titled "Technical Product Documentation — Dimensioning and Tolerancing — Part 5: Dimensioning of Metal Components," was successfully approved in the proposal vote of the ISO/TC10 Technical Product Documentation Standardization Committee. At the same time, the inquiry draft of the international standard "Technical Product Documentation — General Requirements for Digital Mock-ups of Mechanical Products," in the preparation of which the company participated, also passed the vote smoothly, marking a major breakthrough in XCMG's standardization work.
XCMG's leadership has consistently attached importance to standardization work. In 2009, the company established a Standardization Management Committee and a Technical Standardization Professional Committee to provide overall leadership for the company's standardization work. Under this system, the Science and Technology Quality Department and the Research Institute, as the lead and specific undertaking units of company-level standardization work, have been seeking to reach new commanding heights in standards.
Starting from the end of 2011, XCMG participated in the standards work of the ISO/TC10 Technical Product Documentation Standardization Committee and sent personnel to participate, as registered international standards experts, in the preparation of "Technical Product Documentation — General Requirements for Digital Mock-ups of Mechanical Products," marking its first substantive participation in the preparation of an international standard. During the preparation process, the company, in conjunction with the construction of a global collaborative R&D information platform, worked with partner organizations to incorporate project R&D concepts into the standard, and its advanced technology attracted attention from developed countries. Recently, the standard passed the DIS draft vote unanimously and is about to enter the FDIS stage.
On the basis of its successful participation in the preparation of international standards, XCMG began to apply to lead an international standard at the end of 2012. After analysis, it chose the dimensioning of metal components, an area with a certain foundation and a gap in the system, as the direction. By studying the ISO working guidelines, maintaining close contact with the standardization committee, and inviting internal and external experts to participate, it overcame difficulties such as lack of experience in international standardization work and insufficient foundation in relevant standards, and successively completed research preparation and the drafting of materials related to the proposal. During this period, the draft underwent numerous revisions, and it was introduced to experts from various countries at the ISO/TC10 annual meeting held in Hangzhou, China, in May 2013, finally gaining recognition from experts from developed countries such as the United States, Sweden, and Japan. In the standard vote launched in November 2013, the NP draft of the standard was approved by a simple majority of ISO/TC10 member countries and secured the participation of six national member bodies, successfully entering the CD draft stage. The company will complete the subsequent development work as the working group convener.
As the highest-level standard in the world, the development of an international standard requires unanimous recognition from all countries and is extremely difficult. Thanks to the company's successful internationalization and standardization strategy in recent years, XCMG has been able to secure a place in the standards field that has long been dominated by developed countries in Europe and North America. This will expand XCMG's international influence and achieve coordinated improvement of soft power and hard benefits.
The road has just begun, and the tasks are arduous. The international standard that passed the vote this time will next undergo multiple stages of voting and refinement, and will experience years of polishing and negotiation. It is believed that, relying on strong technical strength and international influence, XCMG's standardization work will open up new prospects and achieve greater results.
Did you know: ISO international standards are global standards managed by the International Organization for Standardization, and many Chinese national standards are converted from them. Their development process is meticulous and strict. A standard must go through seven stages: PWI (Preliminary Work Item), NP (New Proposal), WD (Working Draft), CD (Committee Draft), DIS (Draft International Standard), FDIS (Final Draft International Standard), and ISO (Publication). The drafting cycle is generally at least three years.
