It is reported that the National Art Museum of China, a landmark building located in the central area of the Olympic Park, will begin construction this year. Recently, the reporter learned from relevant departments that this project, with a total construction area of approximately 129,000 square meters, is scheduled to start in the first quarter and be completed by the end of 2017. Once completed, it will become the world's largest national art museum.
It is understood that the museum will focus on fulfilling the functions of an art museum, with emphasis on two major themes: first, a long-term permanent exhibition of Chinese art since the 20th century, taking historical development as the main thread, while also establishing dedicated rooms for important art movements and important artists to display collection works on a large scale. Second, it will look ahead to the future development of art, providing ample conditions for displaying various forms of visual art. On this basis, three major collection and exhibition areas will be established, namely calligraphy and seal carving, folk art, and international art.
It is worth mentioning that the designers who participated in the final design competition for the project all came from abroad, and several of them have won the Pritzker Architecture Prize, known as the "Nobel Prize of architecture."
