A notice on Baosteel Group's official website on the 14th regarding the adjustment of the party secretary position showed that Xu Lejiang succeeded Liu Guosheng as Party Secretary of Baosteel Group Co., Ltd. Meanwhile, the Party Committee of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission decided to remove Comrade Liu Guosheng from the position of Vice Chairman of Baosteel Group Co., Ltd. A staff member of Baosteel Group's publicity department stated that this adjustment of the group's leadership team was decided by the central government, and Liu Guosheng's departure from the leadership team was mainly due to age.
Public information shows that Liu Guosheng was born in 1951 and is now 63 years old. He had served as Party Secretary and Vice Chairman of the group for 11 years. Xu Lejiang was born in 1959 and had already served as Chairman of Baosteel Group before becoming Party Secretary. In the future, Xu Lejiang will hold both the positions of Chairman and Party Secretary of the group.
It is reported that Baosteel Co., Ltd. (600019.SH) released a performance express report on the 10th, stating that the company achieved operating revenue of 190.327 billion yuan in 2013, a year-on-year decrease of 0.62%; net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company was 5.781 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 44.35%; basic earnings per share were 0.35 yuan.
However, just last month, two steel enterprises had already adjusted their leadership teams. Among them, the resignations of Wang Yifang, Chairman of Hebei Iron and Steel (000709.SZ), and Peng Zhaofeng, Deputy General Manager, attracted market attention.
A December 2013 announcement by Hebei Iron and Steel showed that Chairman Wang Yifang and Deputy General Manager Peng Zhaofeng both resigned. Several industry analysts said this was another broader senior management change at Hebei Iron and Steel following the removal of a senior executive at the end of October. The reason may be related to the loss of state-owned mineral resources caused by the illegal theft of the group's Miaogou Iron Mine.
An analyst pointed out that changing leadership after losses has become a trend in the steel industry. In recent years, Hebei Iron and Steel's performance has continued to decline, and Wang Yifang's resignation may also be related to the company's poor operating performance.
It is reported that Hebei Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.'s net profit in 2011 was 1.383 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 20.1%; in 2012, net profit was only 109 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 92.1%; in the first three quarters of 2013, net profit still fell 68.2% year-on-year to 117 million yuan.
In addition, Anyang Iron and Steel Group also announced its leadership adjustment plan before the end of 2013. The Henan Provincial Party Committee and the Organization Department of the Provincial Party Committee decided that Comrade Li Tao would serve as Chairman of Anyang Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd., and Comrade Wang Ziliang would serve as Chairman of the Henan Provincial Supervisory Board of State-owned Enterprises (at the principal department level), removing him from the positions of Chairman and General Manager of Anyang Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd.
A steel analyst in Beijing pointed out that after this senior management adjustment at Anyang Iron and Steel Group, Wang Ziliang was promoted to a principal department-level cadre, and this transfer is not directly related to negative factors such as performance pressure. Nevertheless, the performance of Anyang Iron and Steel (600569.SH) still deserves attention.
It is reported that Anyang Iron and Steel's net profit in 2011 was 37.86 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 45.48%; in 2012, it suffered a huge loss of 3.498 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 9338.71%; in the first three quarters of 2013, it still lost 373 million yuan. If it cannot turn a profit in 2013, it will be subject to ST treatment.
According to statistics compiled by Dazhihui News Agency, there are still 9 listed steel enterprises in the domestic A-share market facing "ST risk", including Anyang Iron and Steel, Hangzhou Iron and Steel (600126.SH), Xinyu Iron and Steel (600782.SH), Shandong Iron and Steel (600022.SH), Maanshan Iron and Steel (600808.SH), Valin Steel (000932.SZ), Shougang Co., Ltd. (000959.SZ), Nangang Co., Ltd. (600282.SH), and Sansteel Minguang (002110.SZ).
The analyst predicted that in the future, steel enterprises will accelerate the reshuffling process against the backdrop of cutting overcapacity and advancing restructuring.
