Recently, it was learned from the Shandong Provincial Department of Transport that Shandong Province has major new infrastructure plans for 2014. The province plans to invest 56.5 billion yuan, striving to complete and open three expressways—Jinan–Leling, the Juancheng Yellow River Bridge, and Juancheng–Heze—within the year, and to start construction on six expressways including Tai'an–Dong'e and Longkou–Laixi, while actively advancing preliminary work on projects such as Zaozhuang–Yutai and Yutai–Heze.

“In 2013, fixed asset investment totaled 53.9 billion yuan for the year, of which highway, port and waterway, and station construction completed investments of 35.25 billion yuan, 11.6 billion yuan, and 6.75 billion yuan, respectively. The Longkou Port port-access highway and the Jinan connector project of the Jinan–Guangzhou Expressway were completed and opened to traffic.” The director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Transport stated that the province's total highway mileage open to traffic reached 252,800 kilometers in 2013, including 4,994 kilometers of expressways, with highway density reaching 161.3 kilometers per 100 square kilometers. Construction has also started on six expressways: Jining–Yutai, Dezhou–Xiajin, Xiajin–Liaocheng, Rongcheng–Wendeng, Jinan–Dongying, and Weifang–Rizhao.

It is understood that in 2014 the highway network will be further improved, with the focus on consolidating and perfecting the existing road network and on resolving dead-end roads and clearing congested roads. This year, progress on 12 projects under construction, including Jinan–Leling and Liaocheng–Fanxian, will be comprehensively accelerated, striving to complete and open the three expressways—Jinan–Leling, the Juancheng Yellow River Bridge, and Juancheng–Heze—within the year. Preliminary work will be intensified to ensure the start of construction on six expressways: Shenxian–Nanle, Penglai–Qixia, Tai'an–Dong'e, Dong'e–Luji Boundary, Longkou–Laixi, and Wendeng–Laiyang. Preliminary work will be actively advanced on projects such as Chengkou–Zhanhua, Gaoqing–Guangrao, Lanshan–Luozhuang, Zaozhuang–Yutai, Yutai–Heze, and Juye–Shanxian. In addition, phased results have been achieved in the preliminary work for four expressway capacity-expansion and reconstruction projects, including the Wendeng–Laiyang and Chengkou–Zhanhua expressways and the Zibo West–Laiwu section of the Binzhou–Laiwu Expressway.

Promoting infrastructure construction and increasing the number of engineering construction projects will expand demand for engineering machinery and equipment. Whether for the construction of affordable housing or for transportation construction in the urbanization process, both can bring a driving effect to machinery manufacturing enterprises. With the advancement of new urbanization, the engineering machinery industry will embrace a spring.
