Full elevated section from Fuyuan Road to Xiangfu Road

　　The Wanjiali Road expressway upgrade project starts from Fuyuan Road in the north and ends at Xiangfu Road, with a total route length of about 16.6 kilometers. It will be upgraded into a fully elevated urban expressway. By setting up a main-line elevated bridge to separate the main line from the auxiliary roads, long-distance through traffic will be concentrated on the main line while short-distance turning vehicles will be concentrated on the auxiliary roads, each following its own route without interference.

　　According to the head of the Changsha Municipal Facilities Construction Administration Bureau, after the expressway upgrade, the Wanjiali Road main line will be built to urban expressway standards, fully elevated, with six lanes in both directions and a design speed of 80 km/h; the auxiliary roads will be built to urban arterial road standards, with eight lanes in both directions (including a pair of bus-only lanes) and a design speed of 50 km/h. The main line and auxiliary roads will be connected through entrance and exit ramps.

　　The planned Metro Line 5 will share a spatial corridor with Wanjiali Road. To minimize the impact and interference between these two major projects, the elevated road and the metro will adopt a vertically separated, separately aligned construction scheme. At the same time, a ground-level bus rapid transit project will be implemented in conjunction with the expressway upgrade, and the two lanes close to the central median on the ground will become dedicated BRT lanes. After the Wanjiali Road expressway upgrade and Metro Line 5 are completed, Wanjiali Road will form a three-dimensional, multi-level composite transportation corridor integrating an elevated expressway, ground auxiliary roads, bus rapid transit, metro, and slow traffic.
