据统计，中国挖掘机生产企业的规划年产能约60多万台，但2012年全年的总销量还不到12万台，而挖掘机市场的年销量预测到2015年也就15万台左右。工程机械产能严重过剩，行业盲目扩张，市场资金极度紧张不少从业者忧心忡忡。
而在中联重科董事长詹纯新看来，“行业收缩期并不意味着工程机械企业穷途末路，反而是企业发展的机会。”从内陆欠发达城市走向国际市场的中联重科，在应对产能过剩时有如此大的信心，与企业多年来坚持转方式、调结构、走质量效益型发展道路是分不开的。
