CSR announced on the evening of December 23 that the company has recently signed several major contracts totaling approximately RMB 8.74 billion, accounting for about 9.7% of the company's 2012 operating revenue under Chinese accounting standards.

The specific projects include: CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, signed metro vehicle sales contracts totaling approximately RMB 3.01 billion with Guangzhou Metro Corporation, Siemens International Trading Co., Ltd., and Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd. respectively. CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, signed locomotive sales contracts worth approximately RMB 2.63 billion with the relevant railway bureaus of China Railway Corporation. CSR Nanjing Puzhen Vehicle Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, signed passenger train sales contracts worth approximately RMB 1.2 billion with the relevant railway bureaus of China Railway Corporation. CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, signed wind turbine generator sales contracts totaling approximately RMB 480 million with Northwest Electric Power Engineering Contracting Company and Huadian International Materials Co., Ltd. respectively. CSR Qishuyan Locomotive Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, signed a locomotive repair contract worth approximately RMB 120 million with the Urumqi Railway Bureau of China Railway Corporation. CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, signed a modern tram project contract worth approximately RMB 1.3 billion with Ningbo Modern Urban Transit Development and Construction Co., Ltd.

A relevant person from CSR stated that the company is in a critical development stage of achieving success and major growth in both the railway and non-railway markets, as well as in domestic and overseas markets. With the implementation of the second round of railway equipment tendering at the end of the year, the company's performance is expected to continue to rise.

Liu Youmei, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the Expert Committee of CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., introduced that the historical mission of high-speed and heavy-haul rail transit has been completed. Under new historical conditions, the world faces the challenges of the energy crisis and sustainable development. The future development trends are, first, "green" and, second, "intelligent." Represented by CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., its urban rail industry has gone from the first independent industrialization of complete vehicles to the independent industrialization of core components, and then to the green and intelligent transformation and upgrading, forming a sound path of integrating production, education, research, and application.

At present, metro lines in 34 cities in China have been approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, of which 24 cities have already begun tendering for metro vehicles. According to the "2012-2013 China Urban Rail Transit Development Plan" completed by the Transportation Research Institute of the NDRC, urban rail transit is expected to complete investment of RMB 280-290 billion in 2013.

CSR has obvious competitive advantages in the urban rail market. First, it has the strongest technical strength and the most complete industrial chain, having achieved system integration of key technologies for traction, signaling, and braking systems. Second, it has a broad market share, and its products are stable and reliable. Among the 24 cities that have already conducted tendering, CSR's urban rail vehicle products have entered 18 cities, of which 11 cities are exclusively served by the company. Whether in terms of the existing stock of urban rail products or the amount of contracts won, the company has achieved a market share of more than half.

In 2012, the company not only won domestic and overseas metro vehicle orders worth RMB 13 billion, but also won orders worth RMB 2.3 billion for urban rail vehicle traction systems and braking systems. It won 8 of the 11 domestic tendering projects, achieving a market share of 72.7%, and is the only enterprise in China to independently obtain bidding qualification and win orders.

In terms of new product development, last year CSR successively developed new products such as medium- and low-speed maglev trains, energy-storage light rail vehicles, and 100% low-floor trams. The company overcame difficulties in supercapacitor cell technology and energy-storage power supply integration technology, and successfully rolled off the prototype of an energy-storage electric traction light rail vehicle, becoming the world's first enterprise to apply supercapacitor energy-storage devices as traction power sources (600405, stock bar) to light rail vehicles.

According to statistics, by 2015, total investment in urban planning transit across the country will reach RMB 1.2 trillion, and 93 metro lines will be built, with a total mileage of 2,700 kilometers. CSR has promising prospects in this field.
