Since the 1980s, China has begun implementing the geotechnical engineering investigation system. Compared with geological investigation projects, geotechnical engineering investigation must not only correctly reflect the engineering geological conditions of the site and foundation, but also conduct technical verification and analytical evaluation in conjunction with engineering design and construction conditions, and serve engineering construction.
The objects of geotechnical engineering investigation are mainly geological bodies below the ground surface, which are difficult to observe and inspect directly. Most rock and soil bodies are heterogeneous and anisotropic, and their stress states are complex. There are many types of geotechnical engineering and many investigation, design and construction methods. Especially under complex conditions, the natural conditions of the site are highly variable, and the geotechnical engineering problems encountered are diverse. It is particularly important that the implementation of exploration work correctly reflect the engineering geological conditions of the site and foundation.
1 Main technical problems existing in geotechnical engineering investigation
As competition in the investigation market becomes increasingly fierce, many investigation units undertake investigation business at low prices for various reasons. Many investigation units are unwilling to adopt advanced means and advanced equipment, resulting in a trend of stagnation in investigation quality and technological progress. According to the current Code for Investigation of Geotechnical Engineering, the task is to provide accurate, reasonable and economical geotechnical engineering investigation reports. It is believed that there are many technical problems in geotechnical engineering investigation, mainly as follows:
(1) Interface division problems: division of interfaces between different rock and soil bodies and degrees of rock weathering, determination of geological structures and weak structural planes, and geological interfaces of unfavorable geological bodies, etc.;
(2) Geological morphology problems: determination of unknown underground objects, cavities and their distribution morphology, burial locations and burial depths;
(3) Geotechnical parameter problems: geotechnical design parameters (bearing capacity, deformation indicators, etc.) are difficult to determine;
(4) Comprehensive ability problems: some investigation technicians are not strong enough in organizing, analyzing and utilizing original field and laboratory data from investigation, lack the ability to distinguish authenticity and summarize, and lack knowledge of architectural and structural design, which often makes the purpose of investigation unclear and the provided data unable to meet needs;
(5) Technical quality problems: when encountering major projects and complex engineering, investigation technicians are at a loss and cannot adopt appropriate technical methods and means to solve the technical difficulties encountered.
2 Main measures to solve the problems
To solve the main technical problems existing in the above-mentioned geotechnical engineering investigation, the following aspects of work can be strengthened.
(1) Comprehensive application of various investigation means and diversity of thinking, improving investigation accuracy, and comprehensively reflecting the morphology, interfaces, physical and mechanical characteristics of various geological bodies at the investigation site and their interrelationships. In terms of methods, it is not possible to rely only on traditional single investigation means. With the continuous development of science and technology, engineering geological mapping, drilling and pit exploration should be comprehensively adopted, engineering geophysical prospecting technology should be reasonably selected and used, and attention should be paid to the application of remote sensing and geographic information systems in investigation, etc.
(2) Strengthen continuing education and technical training for investigation technicians and form a regular system to promote the updating of their knowledge.
(3) Strengthen the application of new technologies for geotechnical testing and various in-situ tests, strengthen the use of construction inspection and monitoring technologies, and ensure the reliability of the geotechnical engineering design and construction parameters provided.
